Ford Hybrid Excel

A Ford Fusion costs 21,900 dollars and gets 34 miles per gallon of gasoline, while a Ford Fusion Hybrid costs 27,200 dollars and gets 47 miles per gallon of gasoline. Assuming gas prices are fixed at 3.50 per gallon we will compare the total cost (car purchase price + fuel cost) for driving each car over 100,000, 200,000 and 300,000 miles.

Part 1: Create a spreadsheet and use the FAT Method to answer these questions.

1. Is it cheaper to buy and drive a Ford Fusion or a Ford Fusion Hybrid for 100,000 miles?

2. Is it cheaper to buy and drive a Ford Fusion or a Ford Fusion Hybrid for 200,000 miles?

3. Is it cheaper to buy and drive a Ford Fusion or a Ford Fusion Hybrid for 300,000 miles?

Part 2: On a second spreadsheet change the gas prices to $4.00 per gallon and compare the total costs for each car.
Part 3: One a third spreadsheet change the gas price to $4.50 per gallon and the price of the Hybrid to $32,000 and compare the total costs of each car again.
